Nevada Museum of Art – Tiffany Exhibition

I had the pleasure of going to see the Tiffany Exhibition yesterday at our own Nevada Museum of Art.  How lucky we are to have this first class Museum in Reno.  In collaboration with the University of Nevada, Reno School of the Arts, the Museum presents a music performance series interpreting and responding musically to the 3 Tiffany era exhibitions on view through May 20th.

I saw 20 exquisite lamps  by Tiffany Studios and other lamp manufacturers of the Art Nouveau era. They are all from the collection of Dr. Byron Vreeland.  The colors are fantastic and the entire display is shown on a huge dragon fly  built with oak counter tops to show the lamps at their best. In Company with Angels; 7 rediscovered Tiffany Window are magnificent.  Found in an old barn after being stored there for years they were salvaged, cleaned and once again can be seen and enjoyed. The arms from the Robert M. Lee collection features the finest-known collection of privately owned Tiffany & Co. arms.

Ticket for the show can be purchased at  www.nevadaarat.org

Lon Welsh author of “How to thrive in a down market” gave us a 1  hour lecture on how to market ourselves better.   We then had the pleasure of Adam Stern of Own America… a  Real estate investing course for aspiring investors or agents . They understand a few key fundamentals:
• Buy low and sell high by timing your buys when the market is down and selling when it is up.
• The American economy will come roaring back at some point.
• People who own a bunch of houses are rich.

Auction of Cottage at Montreux Golf and Country Club, Reno Nevada.

Today, January 25th, I went to the first live auction at Montreux. The property was a small cottage on Wetzel Court, 2,250 sq feet.

I was surprised to see many home owners were there to watch the process and a few ready to bid.  One could bid one line as well. Of course we had all done our due diligence, had the place inspected for any structural problems or pest issues.  The property was last sold for $900,000 and the opening bid was going to be $50,000.

Most people where not ready to go higher than $400,000 dollars.  I would say the place needs about $15,000 put into it to make it a good rental or 2nd home.  I know for certain that one could not build this cottage for the price it sold for.  It is extremely high end  with top appliances, great hardware,  tiled and carpeted floors and  has the 11 inch thick walls, built out of Arxx.  Added to this one has to remember that is is  in the private gated community of Montruex Golf and Country Club  with its Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course.

It sold for $425,000 dollars to a bidder on line.  Now the seller still has to accept the offer.

Arrowcreek, Galena, Montreux, Saddlehorn and Scotch Pines Real estate

I had the pleasure last weekend to take out 2 clients to show them property in the Arrowcreek, Galena Forest, Scotch Pine, Saddlehorn and Montreux areas.  We saw at least 30 homes and about 6 lots.

ArrowCreek has some incredible buys with a few foreclosures and a number of Short Sales. Lots have great views of down town Reno.  29 Rabbit Brush Ct. is a FORECLOSURE, 5,288 sqft, $683,000 and lovely views of the mountains, a great deal…I loved 1055 Indian Summer Court, modern, simple and great views of down town as well as a great price, this home is a short sale.   There are many more, so feel free to contact me and I will send you a list.

Saddlehorn is one of my most favorite places in Reno, family friendly with lots of hiking trails and one that connects to the Whites Creek trail as well.  We saw at least 4  homes there ranging in price from $500 to $900 thousand. 4195 Wild Quail Court, $4,542 sq ft $850,000 was one of my favorites.

Moving up to the Montreux Golf and Country Club area, we saw numerous lots,  good prices and a number of nice homes in Montreux.  One cottage 6365 Wetzel Court, 2,259 sq ft is going up for auction at Montreux on January 25 at 10.30 am.  Opening bid is $50,000

The one home in Galena Forest Estates on 145 Twinberry Circle is fantastic, must be a 2nd home as it looks brand new and is furnished so tastefully, I would include the furniture in what ever I offered for the home… 3,800 sq feet, asking price $799,000.  Another beautiful home in Galena is 1670 Green Ash Rd, 7,166 sqft, $1,700,000 1.67 acres and a 4 car garage, single story and HOA fees are only$17 per month.

Scotch Pines has great lots forsale and the one home on 102 W Jeffrey Pine Road, which  is a FORECLOSURE, is lovely however needs some work, quite modern inside, simple and views of down town.  Then there is 208 N Big Sage Lane 4,505 on 1 acres for $1,250,000.  This home feels like you are one with nature as the outside flows  into the home with its large windows and forested setting.   All in all it was a great weekend and I had a happy more educated client at the end of the 3 days.

Weather in Reno/Tahoe Nevada breaks 128 year record

It was announced a few days ago that December 2011 was the driest in 128 years.  This morning I decided to take a walk with my dogs and go down the Galena trail that runs thru Galena Forest Estates and Montreux golf and County club, down to Callahan park. The walk took me about 2 hour there and back.  Never have I seen the trail with not a sign of snow in January, the creek was running steady with a few frozen spots.

It has also been a record-setting couple of weeks in terms of temperatures, especially up at Lake Tahoe. Since Xmas day we have set four high-temperature records in Reno, however up at the lake it has been even more impressive.  In the 10 days after Xmas, nine high-temperature records fell at South lake Tahoe.  Yesterday’s high in Reno was 59 and today it will reach a high of 63.

For all those gardeners it is important to remember that trees that were planted in summer last year should be watered as they will die with theses high temperatures and no precipitation. I noticed today at Montreux they were even watering the grass and believe it or not the Jack Nickalaus Signature golf course  is still open for play.
